Latin Entertainment Concerts & CMN Events ignited their fall concert season at Mohegan Sun Arena with an electrifying performance from Daddy Yankee on Sunday, September 9th.
The concert was a stop on his current Big Boss World Tour in support of his Latin GRAMMYâ nominated album, El Cartel: The Big Boss which was released on June 5th.
The album his first studio one in nearly three years debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and remained there for 4 consecutive weeks. The album is currently topping Billboards Latin Rhythm Albums chart for the 13th consecutive week.
Daddy Yankee (Raymond Ayala) is credited with introducing the reggaetón genre to an international mainstream market with his album Barrio Fino. His song, “Gasolina” became a worldwide anthem opening the doors for many reggaetón artists. His new album is an evolution combining electronic, salsa and hip-hop sounds.
During the nearly two-hour concert, Daddy Yankee performed his new material including “En Sus Marca Listo Fuera”, “Fuera de Control” and “Impacto”. He also previewed a new song from his upcoming movie, Talento del Barrio.
The freestyle-reggaetón inspired track will be included on the soundtrack for the movie, which is due for release in November.
Daddy Yankee also worked the crowd performing many of his popular hits including, “Lo Que Paso, Paso”, “Rompe”, “Mayor Que Yo” and “Oye Mi Canto” as well as his new hit single, “Ella Me Levanto”. Alongside a multitude of special effects including pyrotechnics and fireworks he entertained the audience and evoked their participation.
Daddy Yankee thanked everyone for all the love and support.
He also showed his admiration for his country, proclaiming, “I’m just a boy who was born in Puerto Rico!”
Daddy Yankee continues to represent Puerto Rico on a worldwide stage with his music and current tour. His concert that night was a triumph return to Connecticut.
